[/special_text][text]The Big 9 Ramada of horses consists mainly of draft, quarter horse cross. This herd is born and raised here is the mountains, and been ranging in this area for over 50 years. They are truly a breed of their own, with a very quiet and calm disposition. Being born and raised in the wildest of environments makes them very comfortable with all wilderness -hunting situations.
They are kept at most camps, hobbled and belled during the season, which usually keeps them from straying too far. They are brought into camp each morning to be grained and inspected to make sure they are healthy and happy.
At the end of each season, the horses are let loose into the wilderness of the Northern Rocky Mountains to roam free once again.[/text][special_text animation=”fadeInDown” tagname=”h2″ font_weight=”300″ font=”google_web_font_Open Sans” align=”center” color=”#360000″ font_size=”32″ margin_top=”30″ margin_bottom=”10″]HORSE TRAINING

[/special_text][special_text tagname=”div” align=”center” color=”#651810″ font_size=”24″ margin_top=”20″ margin_bottom=”20″]Our horses are all started by International Master Horseman Glenn Stewart,
who is ranked in the top of his field. [/special_text][text]Glenn and his students start working with our horses at the youngest age possible (some a day old) and slowly more and more with them until they are ready for us to put to work, usually when they are 5 or 6 years old.

With over 30 years experience in the horse industry, he has developed his own complete Horsemanship Program that is studied by thousands of students from all over the world.

Glenn personally oversees the starting and training our horses. He puts his hands on each of the horses in our herd. Glenn develops each horse with his exceptional timing, feel and horsemanship giving them an important start with the confidence, respect and understanding of their roles as guide horses high in the mountains.

[/special_text][text]

We freeze brand all of our horses with liquid nitrogen giving each horse it’s own number, to eliminate any confusion about what a horse can be used for. E.g. Hunters horse, guides horse, pack horse or halter broke. (We’ve enclosed an example of a horse list that the crew has access to throughout the season). Freeze branding is much less traumatic to the horses compared to using a hot iron, it is also much more visible.
